Women of Kireka

The Women of Kireka are a group of internally displaced refugees from Northern Uganda working at the Kireka Rock Quarry outside Kampala, Uganda. The women work 12-hour days grinding large blocks of rock into gravel. They make USD 1-2. Supported by Project Diaspora, they have started a jewelry and crafts-making business. In the long-run, they hope to move off the rock quarry. Project Diaspora supports the project through visit facilitation and business mentoring.

Please visit the drop-down menu for a history, more information on the Women of Kireka, purchasing beads, jewelry shots, quarry visits and internships.
