Beautiful stories from Kosovars.
I’m both touched and intrigued by how youth are the core of discontent, riots and ethnic division. However, since it does make sense that they be the greatest participant in these activities as they are the bulk of Kosovo, the basic question is what economic/social – and political – dimensions exist to channel young energy into violence.
Are these conditions exacerbated by political leaders – or do they spur ‘natural’ reactions and attitudes? Are Albanian and Serbian youth aware of why they are participating in this violence – aside from their own inner brewing nationalist sentiment? Do youth understand and/or acknowledge the nature of change in culture – i.e. culture is not static?
Hopefully, I can get some answers in May.
